Google has unveiled MedLM, a collection of foundation models tailored for the healthcare industry, making it available to selected Google Cloud customers in the United States via the Vertex AI platform.

Currently, under MedLM, two models are built on Med-PaLM 2. The first MedLM model, larger in size, is designed for complex tasks. The second model, of medium size, is adaptable for fine-tuning and excels in scaling across tasks.

Over the past several months, Google and HCA Healthcare have collaborated to pilot a solution at four emergency department hospital sites. This initiative assists physicians with their medical notes by implementing the Augmedix app on a hands-free device. The Augmedix platform employs natural language processing and Google Cloud's MedLM on Vertex AI to instantly transform conversation data into draft medical notes. Microsoft provides the Nuance Dragon Ambient eXperience (DAX), which also captures clinician-patient conversations, translates them into notes using ChatGPT-4, and integrates them into EHRs. Microsoft has partnered with Epic to develop and integrate generative AI into Epic's EHRs.

BenchSci, Accenture, and Deloitte use MedLM in their product and service offerings. BenchSci integrates MedLM into its ASCEND platform, accelerating drug development and enhancing the quality of pre-clinical research.

Accenture offers Solutions.AI, which can interpret structured and unstructured data from multiple sources to automate manual processes that were previously time-consuming and prone to error.

Deloitte collaborates with MedLM to improve the insurance member experience and reduce the friction in finding care. They achieve this through an interactive chatbot that assists health plan members in better understanding the provider options covered by their insurance plans.
