Selected topics include n-gram language models, part-of-speech tagging, statistical parsing, word sense disambiguation, discourse segmentation, information extraction, sentiment analysis, machine translation. Quantitative techniques are emphasized, with a focus on applying statistical models to large collections of text. The course provides students with a hands-on experience in building a substantial NLP application of their choice.
